COVID-19: 152 more cases detected in Vietnam over 24 hours
VOV.VN - An additional 48 people have been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus during the past six hours, raising the daily caseload to 152, the Ministry of Health said in its 18.00hrs COVID-19 update on May 18.
Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, the country’s two largest coronavirus hotspots, recorded 33 and 13 more cases respectively over six hours, said the MoH.
All of the new cases in Bac Giang were in quarantine and closely linked to outbreaks at Quang Chau, Van Trung and Dinh Tram industrial parks.
Meanwhile, most of the new patients in Bac Ninh were also F1 cases in quarantine (those in close contact with already confirmed COVID-19 patients). One of them was an employee working for Canon Vietnam.
Both Bac Giang and Bac Ninh suspended operations of a number of industrial parks and imposed social distancing on several localities in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long on May 18 made a fact-finding trip to Bac Ninh, the second largest COVID-19 hotspot in Vietnam, to inspect pandemic prevention and control efforts.
At a working session with provincial leaders, Minister Long proposed placing industrial parks on full alert and testing employees once a week. He alsp proposed performing ventilation at industrial parks, using industrial fans instead of the air conditioning system.
Besides Bac Giang and Bac Ninh, Dien Bien and Thai Binh provinces confirmed one more case each.
Earlier, the MoH announced 85 more cases at noon and 19 more cases in the morning.
Vietnam has recorded nearly 1,500 locally transmitted cases in 27 cities and provinces across the country since the virus recurred in late April.
