Largest-ever transnational drug trafficking ring busted
VOV.VN - The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (C04) has broken up a transnational drug trafficking ring from Europe to Vietnam, detaining 16 suspects and seizing 127 kg of narcotics.
The police said they had kept a close watch on a drug trafficking ring from Europe to Vietnam for sales since April 2021. The drugs had been concealed in pieces of luggage before being sent to Vietnam by air.
Notably, the Hanoi Customs discovered at Noi Bai International Airport a suspicious shipment consisting 36 pieces of luggage weighing more than 400kg from the Netherlands to Vietnam. Thirteen of the pieces were found to contain substances believed to be drugs. Recipients were said to live in various localities in Vietnam, including Hai Duong, Hanoi, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City.
The police and the Hanoi Customs decided to launch an operation to bring the ring to light. They raised houses of the recipients in Phu Tho, Hai Duong, Nghe An, Binh Phuoc, Nam Dinh, Gia Lai and Ho Chi Minh City and found pieces of luggage containing drugs inside.
The police have so far prosecuted 16 people and confiscated more than 127 kg of drugs of various types. This is the largest ever transnational drug trafficking ring by air Vietnam has busted, said Maj. Gen. Nguyen van Vien, head of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department.
During the opening six months of the year, the police nationwide have successfully uncovered 12,421 drug trafficking cases, detaining 17,710 suspects and seizing 290 kg of heroin, 1.42 tonnes of synthetic drugs, 840 kg of cannabis, and a huge number of other related exhibits.
