Hanoi records sharp rise in dengue fever cases
VOV.VN - Since the beginning of this year the capital has recorded a total of 28,483 cases of dengue fever, a figure 2.7 higher compared to the same period from last year, according to the city’s Health Department.
Dengue infections were detected in as many as 30 out of 30 districts and towns across Hanoi, mostly in the district of Ha Dong with 1,973 cases, Hoang Mai with 1,840 cases, Phu Xuyen with 1,835 cases, Thanh Oai with 1,639 cases, Dong Da with 1,565 cases, and Thanh Tri with 1,553 cases.
So far, four patients have died as a result of the infection. The department reported that every week has seen the number of infections increase by approximately 2,400 to 27,000 cases, with the figure set to continue to rise moving forward.
In response to the development of dengue fever, Hanoi has moved to establish two inspection teams aimed at supervising and assisting with dengue-fever prevention activities in schools throughout the city.
The Hanoi Department of Health also requested that local medical facilities formulate a plan aimed at ensuring competent treatment for patients suffering from the viral infection, avoid overloading, while also providing professional support to improve the overall efficiency of medical examination and treatment.
Furthermore, in areas where dengue fever cases have been detected, Hanoi has also carried out mosquito chemical spraying in a bid to prevent the further spread of the disease.
Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. There is currently no specific treatment for dengue and vaccination options are limited.
Patients who develop a sudden high fever of 39-40 degrees Celsius lasting for between two and seven days and with symptoms of headaches, tenderness, and skin rashes should visit a hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
