Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City air route among world's Top 10 busiest

VOV.VN - The Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City air route, operated between Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, consistently ranks among the top 10 busiest domestic air routes in the world, according to a recent report released by Noi Bai International Airport.

Airport authorities said passenger and flight volumes at Noi Bai International Airport have been surging during the summer peak season, yet safety and security remain firmly ensured.

Statistics show Noi Bai airport handled 16.5 million passengers and more than 100,000 flights in the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, Terminal T2, which serves international flights at the airport, welcomed over 7 million international passengers, surpassing its designed capacity of 10 million passengers per year.

“This leads to an exceptionally high frequency of operations and significant service pressure,” said a representative from the airport.

Despite the rising operational pressure, the on-time performance (OTP) rate from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025, was maintained at 74%. Of the total flight delays, 93.8% were due to airline operational issues; 1.8% were weather-related; 0.8% were linked to airport equipment or services; 2.5% were attributed to air traffic management; and 1.1% stemmed from other causes.

Noi Bai airport acknowledges that the OTP rate needs improvement and is actively collaborating with airlines and ground service units to implement comprehensive measures to enhance punctuality.

Since February 1, 2024, the airport has deployed the first phase of the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) model. In the first six months of 2025 alone, this system helped manage 100,002 flights, optimising runway and apron usage, reducing ground waiting time, and boosting flight punctuality.

In addition, Noi Bai is closely collaborating with the Air Traffic Flow Management Centre (ATFMC), airlines, as well as other ground units to implement Level 3 Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) procedures. This initiative improves scheduling efficiency and reduces delays caused by adverse conditions such as weather, military activity, or national events.

Currently, the expansion of Terminal T2 is being fast-tracked through a phased construction approach that allows ongoing operations. Scheduled for completion by late 2025, the project will help address overcapacity issues, improve passenger comfort, and significantly enhance service capabilities.

Noi Bai airport is also conducting a comprehensive review of all concessionaires, enforcing standards on service quality, price listings, and staff conduct. At the same time, the airport is investing in technology to improve passenger convenience, such as implementing biometric check-in using the VNeID platform, expanding self-service kiosks, and launching the ACV iCute online check-in system.

These efforts have earned international recognition. In 2025, Skytrax ranked Noi Bai International Airport among the world's Top 100 best airports, placing it at number 79, up 17 spots from the previous year.

The airport reaffirms its commitment to working closely with aviation stakeholders to bring about further improvements, aiming to offer passengers an increasingly efficient and comfortable experience.
