Hanoi–Hai Phong passenger train catches fire, no casualties reported
VOV.VN - A fire broke out on a passenger train running on the Hai Phong–Hanoi route on April 17, but all passengers were safely evacuated and no casualties were reported.
According to initial information, the incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. when train LP6 reached section Km 61+100 near Tien Trung railway station in Hai Phong.
Flames suddenly erupted in two passenger carriages, with thick black smoke quickly spreading due to flammable materials inside, including foam cushions and leather seats.
Upon detecting the fire, onboard staff used available equipment to contain the flames while organising the evacuation of passengers. However, as the fire spread rapidly to an adjacent carriage, the train was forced to make an emergency stop near Phu Luong bridge to detach the affected cars and prevent the blaze from spreading further.
Firefighting and rescue forces from Hai Phong Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The fire was later brought under control and fully extinguished.
A representative of Vietnam Railways Corporation said the preliminary cause may have been linked to a malfunction in the train’s air conditioning system. At the time of the incident, the two affected carriages were not carrying passengers.
Following the incident, the railway sector arranged road transport to take passengers to Hanoi and ensure their journey continued without major disruption.
Relevant agencies are continuing to assess damage and investigate the cause of the fire.
The Hai Phong–Hanoi railway line, approximately 102 km long, is one of northern Vietnam’s key passenger transport routes, connecting the capital with a major seaport and operating multiple services daily.
