Hanoi airport applies low visibility procedures amid bad weather

VOV.VN - Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has announced that it has moved to apply low visibility procedures (LVP) at Noi Bai International Airport due to bad weather conditions.

This comes after most of flights either departing from or arriving at the airport on the opening days of February were delayed and cancelled due to poor visibility caused by dense fog and a low cloud ceiling in the area.

Accordingly, LVP has been applied to ensure the safety, regularity, and efficiency of air traffic at Noi Bai International Airport in low visibility conditions.

LVP is applied to the Noi Bai Approach and Tower Control (APP/TWR) Centre, Noi Bai Meteorological (MET) Centre, and the facilities maintenance unit. This serves the two RWYs operation, pilots, aircraft operators and organisations, and individuals relating to low visibility operation at Noi Bai International Airport.

Domestic and international airlines who wish to conduct ILS CAT II operations at international airports in the nation can submit permission application letter to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) for approval or recognition of ILS CAT II operation prior to executing such operations.

Furthermore, VATM also directed relevant units to implement the air traffic flow management system (ATFM) in adverse weather conditions, with the ultimate aim of achieving a balance between air traffic demand and airspace capacity in a bid to ensure an optimum safe and efficient use of airspace.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also warned that the ongoing fog is expected to last until February 8 as temperatures in the North have risen, whilst the cold air has only weakened without completely withdrawing.
