Four crew members rescued after barge sinks off Mekong coast
VOV.VN - Vietnamese border guards have successfully rescued four crew members after a sand-carrying barge sank in rough seas off the Mekong Delta.
Border Guard Squadron No. 2 under the Dong Thap Border Guard Command received an emergency distress call early on April 27 reporting that an iron barge carrying approximately 1,100 cubic meters of sand, had sunk near buoy No. 0 in coastal waters.
The vessel was en route from the Ham Luong estuary to Phuoc An Port when it encountered strong winds and high waves, leading to the incident. All four crew members were on board at the time.
Immediately after receiving the alert, rescue forces coordinated with the Tan Thanh Border Guard Station to deploy a vessel and a speedboat, along with eight officers and soldiers, to conduct a search and rescue operation.
By 5:15 a.m., all four crew members had been located and safely rescued in the waters, approximately 30 km off Tan Thanh beach.
Following the rescue, the crew members were given first aid and initial medical care by military medics. They are in stable health condition, and they are being further monitored and treated by doctors.
