Deputy PM extends Vesak greetings to Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hue

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang on May 29 visited and extended greetings to leaders of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hue City on the occasion of Vesak 2026 celebrations (Buddhist Calendar 2570).

At Bao Lam Pagoda, the Deputy Prime Minister met and conveyed Vesak greetings to Most Venerable Thich Giac Quang, vice supreme patriarch of the Patronage Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, as well as monks, nuns and Buddhist followers nationwide.

He acknowledged the positive contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to social welfare, poverty reduction, humanitarian assistance and community development, which have contributed to Vietnam’s socio-economic progress.

He stressed that the country has recorded important accomplishments in socio-economic development, national defence, security and international integration, with significant contributions from religious organisations, including the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is entering a new stage of development toward a prosperous and happy nation, requiring the continued solidarity and participation of people from all walks of life, including Buddhist dignitaries and followers.

Later, the Deputy Prime Minister visited the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hue at Tu Dam Pagoda, where he extended greetings to Most Venerable Thich Khe Chon, vice president of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, and local Buddhist communities.

He highly appreciated the role of the Hue Buddhist Sangha in encouraging monks, nuns and followers to uphold Buddhism’s direction of “Dharma – Nation – Socialism”, and actively participate in patriotic movements, charitable activities and the preservation of traditional cultural values.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that throughout thousands of years accompanying the nation, Vietnamese Buddhism has become deeply integrated into the country’s cultural and historical life, with Hue regarded as one of Vietnam’s major Buddhist centres rich in tradition.

He reaffirmed that the Party, State and the Vietnam Fatherland Front always recognise and value the contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hue to national development.

On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister also visited Tuong Van Patriarchal Pagoda in Hue to extend Vesak greetings.
