COVID-19: HCM City tops infection tally at 218 over 24 hours
VOV.VN - A total of 391 fresh COVID-19 cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, with 218 detected in Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s most populous metropolis, according to a report by the Ministry of Health on June 28 evening.
The majority of domestic cases in Ho Chi Minh City had come into contact with confirmed patients or are associated with previous outbreaks, while cases occurring in other provinces are either F1 contacts of infected patients or were detected in areas currently in lockdown due to their link with industrial parks.
The latest cases therefore bring the overall number of active COVID-19 cases up to 16,041, including 1,778 imported cases, and 14,263 locally transmitted ones.
According to details given by the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control, as of June 27, 1,826 positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been detected in isolation areas following the fourth COVID-19 wave to hit the country, most of them due to pre-existing infections.
Most notably, among a total of 1,826 positive cases in isolation, 1,091 had given positive test results, representing 55.8% of the total, during their first test. In addition, 603 had produced positive results on their second test, 33% of the total, and 143 cases had positive results on their third test, 7.8% of the total.
Statistics from the cases recorded in quarantine facilities indicate that the rate of positive tests for the first, second, and third time stands at 96.6%, while the remaining 3.4% were positive cases after quarantined people in the same room had previously tested positive.
Coming second after the largest COVID-19 hotspot of Bac Giang with more than 5,660 cases, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded 3,436 cases of local transmission so far.
According to the Treatment Sub-Committee under the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, among patients currently undergoing treatment, 148 are critically ill and 16 are relying on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Currently, 49 patients have a very severe prognosis, whilst 11 are believed to be fatal.
The same day, a further 200 coronavirus patients were released from hospital, boosting the total recoveries to 6,519, while the death toll remains at 76.
