COVID-19: Another Russian expert infected, Vietnam has 384 cases
VOV.VN - An oil and gas expert from Russia has been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing Vietnam’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 384, the Ministry of Health said on July 20.
The 27-year-old Russian citizen boarded IO4405 flight from Russia to Vietnam on July 11. He was placed in quarantine as soon as he landed at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
He first tested negative for the virus on July 13 but another test five days later showed the man was infected with the virus after displaying typical clinical symptoms of the disease such as a high temperature, a sore throat and a backache.
The patient is being quarantined at Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial General Hospital for medical observation and treatment.
This is the 10th coronavirus case detected on the same flight from Russia.
According to the Ministry of Health, as of 18.00pm July 20 Vietnam has recorded a total of 384 COVID-19 cases since the first infection was confirmed in late January. Of the figure, 360 patients have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospital.
Of the remaining 24 cases, five patients have tested negative for the virus at least once.
Vietnam has brought the COVID-19 epidemic under control as it has gone through 95 days without new locally transmitted coronavirus infections.
