The latest patient is a sailor working onboard the ship IPANEMA. He was placed into isolation on the vessel before being taken to a hotel for quarantine in the northern province of Quang Ninh on July 6.

His first sample was tested negative for the novel coronavirus on July 9 but his second test result came back positive eight days later.

The patient is being kept in quarantine and receiving treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases No 2 in Hanoi’s Dong Anh district.

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the overall number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Vietnam has amounted to 383, including 243 entering from epidemic-hit regions. All imported cases were in quarantine right after their arrival in the country, posing no risk of local transmission.

As many as 357 or 93.2% have fully recovered with no fatalities caused by the virus being recorded so far.

The remaining 26 patients are receiving treatment at health facilities and in stable condition, with 7 tested negative for the coronavirus once and four at least twice.

A total of 12,798 people who came into close contact with the confirmed cases or have come from pandemic-hit areas currently remain in quarantine to undergo health monitoring, including 100 people at hospitals, while the remainder are at other concentrated quarantine sites, at home, or in accommodation facilities.

Regarding the continuation of repatriation flights, budget airline VietJet on July 18 in coordination with relevant agencies of the Philippines brought home more than 240 Vietnamese citizens.

The nation’s overseas representative agencies and local airlines will conduct more repatriation flights on the basis of pandemic developments, overseas citizens’ aspirations, and local quarantine capacity.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang at a recent press briefing, 13,323 Vietnamese citizens stranded in various countries and territories across the globe have been brought home on 55 flights since April 10.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc directed government agencies to bring home another 14,000 Vietnamese.

Upon arrival in the country, all passengers have to receive health check-ups and are kept in quarantine in line with regulations set out by the Ministry of Health in a bid to prevent the possibility of virus transmission in the community.
