COVID-19: 20 further local infections recorded on May 22 morning
VOV.VN - 20 further community cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the Ministry of Health on May 22 morning, boosting the national infection tally since the resurgence of the virus in the latest outbreak to 1,912.
Among the new cases detected in five localities, 11 were found in Bac Giang province, 3 in the neighbouring province of Bac Ninh, 4 in Hai Duong, and one each in Thai Binh and Dien Bien, with most of the cases being F1 contacts with previously confirmed patients.
With the latest additions, Vietnam has so far documented 3,482 local infections, and 1,479 imported ones.
One day earlier, Vietnam confirmed a total of 131 new local transmissions, with the majority recorded in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, the current largest epicenters in the latest COVID-19 outbreak.
Furthermore the Ministry of Health has announced that it had allocated COVID-19 vaccines to centres for disease control in cities and provinces, armed and public security forces, hospitals, universities, and ministry units.
As many as 1,682,000 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the COVAX Facility will be administered to target localities and units in this third phase of allocation.
The Health Ministry has asked that localities and units receiving allocations promptly conduct vaccinations and finalize the inoculation by August 15.
Meanwhile , the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee has decided to allocate 12.1 trillion VND ( roughly US$523.28 million ) from the remainder of last year’s State budget to buy COVID-19 vaccines.
As of May 21, as many as 1,026, 672 frontline medical workers and members of the community-based anti-COVID-19 groups received COVID-19 vaccine shots, including a total of 28,961 vaccinated with full two doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
