Vietnam reports huge number of critical COVID-19 patients
VOV.VN - The country continues to record a high number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in a critical condition, with many receiving treatment from Bac Ninh Hospital, the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, the Da Nang Lung Hospital, and the Central Highlands Regional General Hospital.
This comes after leading health experts held a national consultation meeting on May 21 to discuss the best treatment for severe cases.
At present, Bac Ninh Hospital is treating to 61 COVID-19 patients, of which 20 require oxygen support, three are relying on non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and one is undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation and dialysis.
One of the severe cases involves a 67-year-old patient suffering from severe pneumonia, diabetes, hypothyroidism, and adrenal insufficiency.
Most notably, as many as 360 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, with 20% of patients in a critical condition and 37 patients needing oxygen support. In addition, 87 of the patients suffer from a variety of underlying illnesses.
The sickest patient at the hospital was diagnosed with sepsis, cirrhosis, and has an extensive history with alcohol, with experts holding several consultations for the case and issuing warnings regarding the mortality risk.
During the course of the meeting, the Da Nang Lung Hospital and the Central Highlands Regional General Hospital also needed the consultation of experts for three severe cases, including a Korean man who is suffering from severe pneumonia, hypertension, and obesity.
