COVID-19: 143 further community cases recorded in 11 Vietnamese localities

VOV.VN - An additional 143 new domestic cases of COVID-19, and 2 imported ones, were recorded over the past 24 hours on May 22, according to details released by the Ministry of Health.

The 143 cases recorded domestically include Bac Giang (84), Bac Ninh (28), Hanoi (10), Hai Duong (7), Hung Yen (4), Dien Bien (3), Lang Son (2), Thanh Hoa. Hoa (2), Thai Binh (1), Da Nang (1), and Thai Nguyen (1).

Vietnam has so far recorded 3,605 domestic infections and 1,481 imported cases in total.

The latest infections therefore raise the national tally to 5,086, including 2,035 cases which have been detected since the fourth COVID-19 wave hit the country on April 27.

The number of recoveries rose to 2,721 after a further 32 coronavirus patients were declared to be clear of the virus,  while the death toll has reached 41, all of whom had been suffering from prior underlying health conditions.

Since the latest COVID-19 wave emerged domestically on April 27, the nation has recorded 2,035 local infections across 30 cities and provinces nationwide, including six fatalities.

Bac Giang and its neighbour Bac Ninh are both home to major foreign industrial parks, with the two provinces topping the case count, with 851 and 419 infections each.

According to the Bac Ninh Provincial Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the pandemic has been detected in eight districts and towns in the locality, whilst there are 35 patients who are in serious condition and require mechanical ventilation.

With regard to the current situation, the provincial steering committee has increased human resources, facilities, and equipment for the local health sector in an effort to meet testing capacity for workers at industrial parks and local residents.
