Cold air mass hits northern Vietnam, temperatures fall to 20 degrees Celsius
VOV.VN - A cold air mass is currently moving southward that will send temperatures falling down when the cold grips across northern localities, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The cold air mass is expected to affect the Northeastern region on November 17 afternoon and evening before spreading across the north-central and north-western regions, said meteorologists.
From November 18, the northeastern region and parts of the north-central region will experience cold weather in the evening and early morning. Starting from November 20, the northern and north-central regions will see chilly nights and mornings.
The cold wave will cause temperatures to drop to 22-24 degrees Celsius in the plain and 18 - 20 degrees Celsius in the highlands. Some mountainous areas are anticipated to record a low of below 15 degrees Celsius.
Due to disturbances in the upper easterly wind pattern combined with the cold air mass, light rain and thunderstorms are expected in the northern and central regions from early morning on November 18-19. Thunderstorms may bring strong winds, lightning, and gusts, warned meteorologists.
The combination of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds may impact agricultural production, cause tree falls, and damage homes and transportation infrastructure.
Meanwhile, heavy rain in some localities could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
