Cold front grips across northern Vietnam, heavy rain lashes central region
VOV.VN - A cold front has gripped across northern Vietnam, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures across the region.
Early on November 5, the cold front affected most areas in northeastern Vietnam, with the Bach Long Vi meteorological station recording winds at 49kph, gusting to 70kph.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said, the cold air will continue impacting other areas in the northeastern region, then move toward the north-central region and most of the northwestern region in the afternoon.
Due to the impact of the cold front, northern localities will experience cloudy skies with light rain in some areas. It will be chilly in the morning and at night, with cooler weather during the day.
The cold air mass that is expected to last till November 8-9 will send temperatures tumbling to 19-21°C in the plain and 16-18°C in the highlands.
Along with the drop in temperatures, the central region is experiencing peak rainfall today. From the early morning of November 5 to early morning November 7, heavy rain is expected from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai, with an average rainfall of 100-300mm, and isolated areas potentially exceeding 500mm.
Due to the prolonged heavy rain, there is a very high risk of flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes across the provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai.
