Bus carrying 39 passengers overturns on slope, two injured

VOV.VN - A bus carrying 39 people overturned while descending a mountainous road in northern Lao Cai province early on April 25, leaving two people injured.

According to local authorities, the accident occurred at around 12:05 a.m. on Provincial Road 155, passing through Coc San commune.

The vehicle, driven by a 37-year-old resident from Son La province, was traveling from Sa Pa toward Lao Cai city when it struck a roadside drainage culvert and tipped over on a steep, winding section.

At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying 39 passengers along with the driver and an assistant. Two people were injured and taken to hospital, while most others suffered minor scratches. The vehicle sustained damage.

Local authorities quickly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations, transport the injured to medical facilities, and regulate traffic overnight to prevent congestion and ensure safety. The transport company also coordinated with authorities to assist passengers and handle the aftermath.

Initial tests showed the driver had no alcohol in his system and tested negative for drugs. Preliminary findings suggest the driver was unfamiliar with the road and lost control while navigating a long, winding downhill section.

Further investigation is underway.
