Blast at Lao Cai Industrial Park leaves one dead

VOV.VN - A powerful explosion occurred at around 12:22 p.m. on February 23 at Tang Loong Industrial Park in northern Lao Cai province, killing one worker and damaging part of a factory facility.

According to local authorities, the incident happened at the refining area of Vietnam Yellow Phosphorus Co., Ltd. (Vietphos), where two loud blasts were reported.

Residents living near the industrial park reported hearing two loud blasts accompanied by slight tremors, followed by thick smoke rising high above the factory area.

Initial findings indicate that a double rupture occurred in a refining tank at a phosphorus production furnace. The depletion of water inside the tank led to a phosphorus fire before the material spilled into a safety containment tank beneath the system.

The explosion caused part of a warehouse roof to collapse and damaged several pieces of equipment.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., rescue teams discovered the body of a worker on the warehouse roof. The victim was identified as Vang Van L., born in 1991, a resident of Bac Ha commune, Lao Cai province.

Local police and emergency forces arrived shortly after the incident to conduct rescue operations and contain the fire.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion and assessing damage.
