314 fresh cases of COVID-19 detected in HCM City, Binh Duong on July 8 morning
VOV.VN - A total of 314 new cases were detected to be positive for the SARS-CoV-2-virus in Ho Chi Minh City, the current biggest coronavirus epicenter, and the southern province of Binh Duong on July 8 morning, according to the Health Ministry.
Of the total figure, 234 were found in Ho Chi Minh City and 80 were recorded in Binh Duong, with 264 in isolated or locked down areas and the rest being contact traced for epidemiological investigation.
Daily infection count in the nation has passed the 1,000 mark for the third straight day, with Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s biggest economic hub, recording the highest number of infections at more than 8,380 so far.
One day earlier Vietnam documented a total of 1,007 active cases, including 997 domestic and 10 imported ones.
As many as 19,924 community cases have been detected to date in the ongoing wave of COVID-19 that recurred in the country more than two months ago.
Over 3.9 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to date, of which more than 241,910 have received two shots. Nearly 33,740 people were inoculated against COVID-19 on July 7 alone.
In the face of the widespread pandemic in HCM City, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Minister of Health told a recent urgent meeting with the municipal heath sector that the Health Ministry would mobilize about 10,000 medical workers to join pandemic containment efforts in the southern metropolis. The Ministry is also outlining worst-case scenarios and prepare necessary medical equipment to cope with the situation recording multiple coronavirus cases, Long added.
The city is also poised to impose social distancing measures under the Prime Minister's Directive 16 for another 15 days starting zero hours on July 9 in an effort to slow the spread of the disease to the wider community.
