VOV celebrates 80th founding anniversary, honoured with Ho Chi Minh Order
VOV.VN - The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) on September 7 marked its 80th founding anniversary (1945-2025) at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi, where the national broadcaster was presented with the Ho Chi Minh Order for the third time.

Eighty years ago, at 11:30 a.m. on September 7, 1945, Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) broadcast its first official news program from the capital, Hanoi. In that historic and solemn moment, VOV aired the contents of the Declaration of Independence, formally proclaimed by President Ho Chi Minh to the nation and the international community on September 2, 1945, heralding the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The event marked the birth of national radio, establishing it as the first media symbol of an independent Vietnam, a platform where journalism affirmed its role as the pioneering ideological and cultural front of the Party and the State.
Since that milestone, VOV has stood alongside the nation through wartime and peacetime, closely tied to each stage of the country’s revolutionary path, resistance, reconstruction and defence. Over 80 years, the broadcaster has evolved from modest beginnings into a major multimedia organization, steadfast in the mission entrusted by President Ho Chi Minh, the Party, the State and the people.
Continuously innovating, VOV has asserted its position as a leading national media agency, preserving cultural identity while expanding Vietnam’s voice abroad. The broadcaster acts as a strategic communication bridge, promptly conveying Party policies and State directives; a broad forum reflecting the people’s voice; and a cultural connector that helps raise the country’s international profile.
On the occasion, VOV is honored to receive a congratulatory letter from Party General Secretary To Lam. In the letter, the Party chief extended his sincere sentiments and best wishes to generations of staff, reporters, editors, artists, broadcasters, engineers, technicians, and workers of VOV.
The Party chief affirmed that throughout its 80-year journey, with tireless efforts in self-improvement, dynamism, and creativity, VOV has made significant contributions to the struggle to defend and build the revolutionary government from the earliest days of the nation’s founding; to the cause of regaining independence and freedom; and to safeguarding and building a prosperous Vietnam that stands shoulder to shoulder and integrates with international friends.

He expressed his belief that in the time ahead, VOV will continue to uphold its glorious tradition, maintain solidarity, and demonstrate the steadfastness, intellect, and acumen of revolutionary journalists. VOV is expected to constantly innovate, apply science and technology, and enhance the effectiveness of communication, thereby spreading positive values, nurturing aspirations and confidence, and inspiring cadres, Party members, people across the country, as well as overseas Vietnamese, to unite in building a prosperous, strong, civilized, and happy Vietnam in the new era.
The Party leader extended his best wishes that VOV will always remain worthy of being the country’s leading press agency; worthy of the trust and affection of the Party, the State, and the people; and truly a close and sincere companion to listeners and the public.
VOV sets sights on joining the world’s top 100 media agencies by 2045
In his speech, VOV President Do Tien Sy highlighted VOV’s role as a key and pioneering information channel that leads and guides public opinion, adding that the national broadcaster is entering a new phase with strong transformations to further affirm its position as Vietnam’s leading mainstream, multi-platform media agency, particularly in radio and digital journalism.

“VOV is working to maintain and expand the coverage of traditional radio broadcasting, to take the lead in podcasting in Vietnam, and to improve the quality of content as well as its accessibility and interaction with the public across digital platforms. By 2045, VOV strives to achieve international standing, joining the ranks of the world’s top 100 media organizations, while also becoming one of Vietnam’s leading external communication agencies,” the VOV President said.
"The National Digital Radio Infrastructure Project will serve as a digital ecosystem integrating VOV’s various forms of journalism, enabling smart radio, digitizing data archives, and modernizing the entire production process. Alongside traditional broadcasting, this digital ecosystem will allow VOV to reach a broader and more diverse audience, thereby enhancing its role and influence across modern communication platforms.
The project also focuses on building a team of journalists capable of responding more swiftly to domestic and international political and economic developments with media products that not only meet the public’s information needs but also fulfill the orientation requirements of the Party and the State," the top VOV leader added.

Upon addressing the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh urged VOV to clearly define its vision and develop specific strategies, programs, and plans to realize its aspiration and determination to become one of the leading radio broadcasters in the region, while continuing to uphold and further promote its mission as “The Voice of Vietnam.”
He emphasized two key priorities: to build on its revolutionary tradition and spirit of self-reliance and resilience; to make sustained efforts to swiftly adapt to the changes of the era; to seize opportunities for strong growth; and to elevate the position, brand, and reputation of the national broadcaster. VOV must place its listeners at the center, take digital transformation as the foundation, and regard a high-quality workforce as the driving force; while enhancing its capabilities and making robust use of modern information, communication, and media technologies, the Government leader stressed.

PM Chinh also called on VOV to continue renewing its mindset and working methods, with a focus on quality and effectiveness, while further enhancing its role in information and communication. On this occasion, the Goverment chief presented the national broadcaster with a message: “Mettle-Objectivity-Comprehensiveness-Timeliness-Distinctiveness-Digitalization-Creativity-Effectiveness.”
To mark the special occassion, the State President also decided to award the Ho Chi Minh Order to VOV in recognition of its long-standing traditions and outstanding contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause.

On behalf of the Party, State, and Government leaders, PM Pham Minh Chinh pinned the Ho Chi Minh Order (for the third time) onto the traditional flag of VOV. This high honor reflects the trust and recognition of the Party, State, and Government for VOV’s tremendous achievements, creativity, and innovations in disseminating the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies.
