UN official discusses digital transformation, innovation with HCMA President
VOV.VN - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), and Chairman of the Central Theory Council, on January 6, received UN Under-Secretary-General for Digital and Emerging Technologies Amandeep Singh Gill, who is visiting Vietnam from January 5-6.
Thang welcomed Gill, highlighting the fruitful cooperation between the academy and the UN, which includes training and research programmes on policy advocacy, female leadership, and provincial policy planning. These efforts have strengthened the academy’s capacity and supported sustainable national governance.
He emphasized Vietnam’s shared vision with the UN for inclusive development and expressed hope that the UN would continue sharing international experiences, especially in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, which are key to Vietnam’s development in the new era.
Gill remarked that the Summit of the Future 2024 adopted the Global Digital Compact (GDC) to foster international cooperation in digital technology, AI, and emerging technologies for the benefit of societies. He said this visit marks his first trip after the UN’s new department for digital technology was established, and expressed the UN’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s ambitious goals in science and technology.
The UN official noted that the GDC aims to assist countries lagging in digital transformation and ensure that no one is left behind. He also showed confidence in Vietnam’s role in the global network for digital transformation.
Agreeing with Thang’s proposals for deeper cooperation between the UN and HCMA in areas such as innovation and digital transformation, Gill welcomed Vietnamese experts, particularly from HCMA, to contribute to AI research and public governance.
He is optimistic that the UN-Vietnam relationship, including with HCMA, will continue to grow for mutual benefit.
