Thongloun Sisoulith chairs official welcome for Vietnamese State leader
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith hosted an official welcome ceremony in Vientiane on April 24 for Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong, who is on a two-day state visit to Laos.

President Cuong's visit takes place as the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos continue to see positive development. Both sides affirmed their resolve to deepen and expand this special relationship in the new context, in line with each country's current conditions.
In recent years, senior leaders of the two Parties and States have intensified meetings and regularly exchanged delegations through all channels. People-to-people diplomacy activities have also been frequently conducted, reinforcing the close and trustworthy political ties between the two nations.
Defense and security cooperation, a key pillar of the bilateral relationship has been maintained and further strengthened, with both sides actively implementing signed protocols and cooperation agreements.
Locality-to-locality cooperation, particularly between border provinces, has also been enhanced, becoming increasingly specific, intensive, and comprehensive across sectors. This has helped ensure security, order, and safety in border areas of both countries.
The visit comes as both Parties and States are actively implementing the resolutions of their respective Party congresses and socio-economic development plans. They are also promoting the outcomes of recent meetings between the two Politburos, trilateral talks among the leaders of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, sessions of the Vietnam–Laos Intergovernmental Committee, and other high-level agreements. The visit is expected to help translate these agreements into concrete action and foster more substantive and effective bilateral cooperation going forward.

This visit will not only reinforce trust and political confidence, but also further bolster the Vietnam–Laos solidarity. It serves to raise public awareness, especially among the younger generation about the unique and invaluable relationship between the two nations, which stands as a rare model in today’s world. This enduring bond lays a strong foundation for the two countries to continue supporting each other in overcoming challenges, safeguarding national development, and contributing to peace, friendship, stability, and progress in the region and beyond.
Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders held talks to explore ways to deepen and effectively promote their comprehensive cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of shared concern, agreeing to enhance mutual understanding and continue close coordination at multilateral forums.
