Swiss media spotlight Vietnam-Switzerland upgrade to comprehensive partnership

VOV.VN - Following the announcement that Vietnam and Switzerland had agreed in principle to elevate their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Partnership, Swiss media outlets on January 22 gave prominent coverage to the significance of this event.

The news portal Nau.ch quoted an article by the Keystone SDA news agency highlighting both nations’ aim to strengthen dialogue. According to the article, representatives from the foreign ministries of both countries signed a declaration of intent to organize regular dialogues during a meeting at the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos."

Specifically, at the meeting between Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the two foreign ministries was signed.

The article also quoted State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Alexandre Fasel, who stated that the MoU establishes a framework for regular political consultations on bilateral and multilateral issues in areas such as diplomacy, economy, culture, human rights, and sustainable development. He emphasized that this document also reaffirms Switzerland's commitment to boosting relations with an "important partner" in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, Blick, a daily newspaper published in the German-speaking regions of Switzerland, reported that Vietnam-Switzerland relations had made significant progress in a variety of fields, particularly in politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, development cooperation, science, technology, and education and training.

Previously, on social media platform X, President Karin Keller-Sutter also shared information about her activities on January 21. She described the day as having been highly productive, with valuable discussions. She also expressed her thanks to the leaders of the countries and organizations involved, including Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
