After the motorcade carrying To Lam and his spouse arrived at the main hall of Government House, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his spouse welcomed the Vietnamese leader and his spouse and invited them to the podium of honour.

The national anthems of Vietnam and Thailand were played, after which To Lam reviewed the guard of honour of the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his spouse, together with To Lam and his spouse, then introduced members of the two countries’ high-level delegations attending the ceremony.

Immediately after the welcome ceremony, the top Vietnamese leader and PM Anutin Charnvirakul held talks with the participation of senior officials from both sides.

Nearly five decades after Vietnam and Thailand established diplomatic relations in 1976, bilateral ties have continued to strengthen and expand across multiple areas, becoming one of the most dynamic and effective relationships within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Thailand is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, while the two economies are becoming increasingly interconnected through regional supply chains.

Thailand is also among the largest ASEAN investors in Vietnam, with major projects in energy, processing industries, retail, logistics and infrastructure.

Thailand and Vietnam hold considerable potential for cooperation in supply chain development, transport connectivity, logistics and Mekong subregional cooperation. Given the important geostrategic positions of both countries, the two sides are well placed to become key connectivity hubs in mainland Southeast Asia.

The official visit to Thailand by To Lam, his spouse and the high-level Vietnamese delegation shows Vietnam’s high regard for its relationship with Thailand as well as the broader Southeast Asian region.

The visit also provides an opportunity for both nations’ senior leaders to hold in-depth discussions on major directions for effectively realizing the new cooperation framework, thereby creating fresh impetus for bilateral ties in the coming period.
