President urges Overseas Vietnamese to unite for national development
VOV.VN - State President Luong Cuong on February 8 called on overseas Vietnamese communities worldwide to unite their intellect, resources and commitment in contributing to national development, as Vietnam enters a new development phase.
At the Homeland Spring 2026 programme themed Vietnamese Aspiration for Peace and Prosperity on the eve of the Lunar New Year of the Horse, President Luong Cuong praised the theme, saying the shared aspiration for peace and prosperity has enabled Vietnam to overcome adversity and advance confidently into a new phase of development.
“Vietnamese Aspiration is the soul of our nation,” he said. “It is the powerful spiritual force that has helped our country navigate challenges, stand firm and grow stronger.”
Addressing around 1,500 overseas Vietnamese representatives from across the world, President Luong Cuong highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in 2025, a year marked by significant national milestones, including major historical anniversaries and institutional reforms aimed at streamlining governance and accelerating development. Despite severe impacts from natural disasters and global uncertainties, he said Vietnam has maintained political stability, safeguarded sovereignty, and achieved strong economic growth, ranking among the world’s 32 largest economies and 15 leading trading nations.
He emphasised that overseas Vietnamese have consistently played an important role in these achievements, serving as bridges of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the international community. Their presence in national celebrations, including recent historic commemorations reflected the enduring strength of national unity.
Looking ahead to 2026, the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President Luong Cuong said the country is entering a new era of development defined by the combined aspiration for peace and prosperity.
“Peace is the foundation for sustainable development, and prosperity ensures a better and happier life for all people,” he said, stressing that national success depends on unity among all Vietnamese, at home and abroad.
Invoking President Ho Chi Minh’s call for great unity, the president urged overseas Vietnamese to continue preserving cultural identity, language and traditions while actively contributing to Vietnam’s long-term development.
Each contribution, he said, “no matter how small, is a precious building block in shaping a peaceful and prosperous Vietnam.”
The Homeland Spring 2026 programme featured a series of iconic Vietnamese songs celebrating national identity, cultural memory and the country’s aspirations for peace and prosperity, creating a symbolic reunion of past, present and future for Vietnamese people worldwide.
The programme was jointly organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hanoi People’s Committee.
