Homeland Spring 2026: Bringing Tet festive atmosphere to the heart of Kyushu

VOV.VN - The 7th Homeland Spring to celebrate Vietnam’s coming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday was held at Tenjin-Kihinkan Central Park in Fukuoka, Japan, on January 31 and February 1, bringing a miniature Vietnam to the heart of the region.

Addressing the event, Vu Chi Mai, Consul General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, emphasised that this year's Homeland Spring holds special significance, as the Communist Party of Vietnam has just organised its 14th national congress, ushering in a new era of development with great aspirations for the country's future.

The vibrant spring colours of Vietnam blend with the rhythm of Japanese life and international friendship, creating a warm and cohesive atmosphere, Mai said, adding that cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges are important foundations for connecting communities.

Tetsuko Ueda, Vice Governor of Fukuoka prefecture extended Lunar New Year greetings to the Overseas Vietnamese community. She acknowledged the community’s efforts in preserving cultural traditions and actively sharing those values with their Japanese friends.

Events like the Homeland Spring 2026 help to contribute to making Fukuoka city even more colourful and warm, said the official.

The event, co-organised by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka and the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka and the Association of Vietnamese Businesses in Kyushu, is an annual cultural gathering and a much-anticipated event for the Vietnamese community in the Kyushu, Okinawa, and the south-central region of Japan.

During the two-day event, the festival space was vibrant with red couplets, yellow apricot blossoms, purple Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress), the lively sound of drums and lion dance performances. Approximately 30 food stalls, cultural displays, folk games, and Tet experiences created a miniature Vietnam in the locality.

Images of children lining up to receive lucky money, adults asking for calligraphy artworks, Vietnamese families gathering and tasting Banh Chung (Square glutinous rice cake) and Nem ran (fried spring rolls), and international friends excitedly learning about Vietnamese traditional customs created an atmosphere brimming with the beauty of Vietnam.

Prior to the opening ceremony, the organisers hosted a series of activities to increase interaction such as folk games, and youth exchange. A Kyushu Got Talent competition was held, with each performance telling a story about love for the homeland, the aspiration for integration, and the pride in Vietnamese identity.

Vietnamese people will celebrate their Lunar New Year festival 2026, the largest of its kind in a year, from February 14 – 22.
