PM visits flood hit people in Yen Bai province

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made a field trip to northern Yen Bai province, one of the most affected localities by typhoon Yagi and subsequent flash floods and landslides.

Flash floods and landslides caused by typhoon Yagi have so far left 40 dead and 4 missing in Yen Bai. The disasters have damaged nearly 23,000 houses, while more than 21,500 houses have been submerged by floodwaters.

Immediately after the floodwaters receded, Yen Bai has promptly implemented measures to stabilize prices of major essential goods and restore electricity supply to all households affected by the outage.

The province has mobilized forces to take part in the cleanup campaign, removing mud and soil, rebuilding damaged houses, and conducting disinfection and decontamination of the affected areas.

Visiting the areas, the PM extended his heartfelt sympathy and encouragement to the affected people and the emergency response forces, hoping that people would quickly overcome the aftermath of the disasters, manage the difficulties, and stabilize their lives.

He thanked local philanthropists for lending a helping hand to affected people, especially those of vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, children and people with disability.

During a later meeting at the headquarters of the Yen Bai administration, the PM requested that leaders of Yen Bai province and relevant ministries further focus their efforts on rescue and relief operations, including searching for the missing, treating the injured, caring for the sick, and providing supplies to isolated areas.

He asked Yen Bai to intensify environment cleanup efforts, prevent possible disease outbreaks, provide food and medical supplies for impacted communities, and restore transportation. He reminded the province to remain highly vigilant against landslides and implement policies for those affected by the disasters.

The Prime Minister announced that the government has decided to allocate VND50 billion as relief aid to support Yen Bai province.
