PM orders all-out efforts to cope with worst possible flooding

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested that ministries, agencies, and localities regularly inspect dike systems in order to prepare for the worst possible flooding situation following the impact of typhoon Yagi.

His request was made prior to a cabinet meeting on law-building held on September 11 in Hanoi. In his remarks, the Government chief said that that post-typhoon floods and landslides had left close to 300 people either dead or missing, with 780 others injured. In addition, crops, livestock, and poultry have either been severely damaged or destroyed.

PM Chinh conveyed sympathy from Party General Secretary and President To Lam and extended condolences to families of victims of floods and landslides. He requested that localities implement policies and provide timely and effective support for affected residents.

He emphasized that people’s health and life must be put first and foremost and called for the engagement of the entire political system, as well as the implementation of all measures to cope with floods and landslides.

He asked the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, agencies, and the localities have not been affected by the recent typhoon to support those hit, and unite in dealing with its aftermaths.

The PM assigned Deputy PMs and some ministers to visit localities and instruct relief efforts taking place there. He stressed that by all means, necessities, especially food, fresh water, and medicines, must be delivered to communities isolated by flooding.

PM Chinh also urged keeping a close watch on the situation at dykes, reservoirs, and areas prone to landslides and flash floods, whilst fast-tracking the evacuation of residents in risky areas to safe grounds.

He therefore suggested loan incentives in support of people and household businesses in restoring production and business, whilst also assisting people in stabilizing their lives, along with increasing the supply of production materials and controlling the market.

Agencies and localities were asked to assess flood damage, cut administrative procedures, and quickly allocate reserves to residents.

Media agencies need to provide updates on the situation, as well as giving warnings and guidelines, the Government chief said, while asking the Ministry of Planning and Investment to work on mechanisms in a bid to maximise resources from the State, businesses, and the entire society to get through this difficult period.
