HCM City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway crucial to national development
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted the significance of the Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh expressway to the country’s socio-economic development while attending the groundbreaking ceremony for a section of the expressway passing through the southern province of Binh Duong on February 1.
The Binh Duong section of the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway stretches over 52 kilometers and is designed with six lanes, allowing vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 100 km per hour.
This expressway is the first to connect Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc provinces, linking to the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh expressway, which will ultimately connect to the Central Highlands region, creating significant development momentum for the Southeast region.
In the first phase, the project will be constructed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with an investment of over VND8.88 trillion (approximately US$356 million), and is expected to be completed within 36 months.
Emphasizing the importance of the expressway, the PM instructed Ho Chi Minh City to begin construction of a 3-kilometer section, while Binh Phuoc province will build a 7-kilometer section running through both localities. Once these sections, along with the one in Binh Duong, are completed, the entire expressway will be smoothly integrated into the national traffic system, linking the Central Highlands, Southeast regions, and the entire country.
He asked the Binh Duong provincial People's Committee to direct the project’s investors, supervisors, consultants, and contractors to maintain a strong sense of responsibility, ensuring that the project meets all deadlines, quality standards, and safety, technical, and environmental requirements. At the same time, personnel and modern equipment should be mobilized to carry out construction in line with technical specifications and legal regulations, while preventing corruption, waste, and negative practices.
The PM also requested relevant central ministries, sectors, and localities to closely monitor the project, manage its quality and progress, and deal with any difficulties or obstacles that arise during implementation. Additionally, local authorities must accelerate site clearance and technical infrastructure relocation, with a particular focus on resettlement efforts and supporting affected people in stabilizing their livelihoods.
During the event, the Government leader commended Binh Duong for approving investment decisions for seven social housing projects, with a total investment of nearly VND8.5 trillion, expected to provide 9,200 apartments for workers and low-income earners. He also praised the province for granting investment licenses to eight foreign projects worth more than US$1.2 billion.
The PM urged other cities and provinces to learn from Binh Duong’s experience in developing social housing and eliminating substandard homes as soon as possible.
