PM pays tributes to fallen heroes in Quang Tri province

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 26 visited and offered incense at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel and the National Road 9 Martyrs’ Cemetery, to pay tribute to fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for national independence and freedom, marking 78 years of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

At the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, the Prime Minister and his delegation solemnly remembered the immense sacrifice of thousands of heroic soldiers who laid down their lives during the historic 81-day battle from June 28 to September 16, 1972 to defend the town and citadel of Quang Tri.

This fierce campaign has become a powerful symbol of Vietnamese revolutionary heroism, inspiring the people and military to achieve the final victory in the Spring of 1975, leading to national reunification and peace.

Later, at the National Road 9 Martyrs’ Cemetery in Dong Ha ward, the final resting place of more than 10,800 fallen soldiers, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed profound gratitude for those who fought and perished along the Road 9 battlefield and in neighboring Laos during the resistance war against American imperialism, as well as in the post-war reconstruction and defence of the nation.

The Prime Minister called on ministries, agencies, and local authorities to continue caring for the cemetery and individual graves; to accelerate efforts in locating and identifying the remains of martyrs; and to facilitate conditions for families, veterans, and citizens to visit and pay homage. He emphasised that such memorials should serve as "sacred landmarks" to educate future generations in the traditions of patriotism and revolutionary resilience.

In his message, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the Party, Government, and people to remain loyal to the ideals of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to follow the path chosen by President Ho Chi Minh and the people, and to strive together for a prosperous, modern, and happy Vietnam, worthy of the ultimate sacrifice of past generations.

Also on the same day, the Prime Minister visited and presented gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Dao Thi Vui, 102, in Hai Lang ward, Quang Tri province. The PM and his delegation presented Vui with AI-generated images and video recreating her moments with her late son. The tribute was produced by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, using artificial intelligence technology to honour and preserve the memory of fallen heroes and their families.

Vietnam has approximately 1.2 fallen heroes, with more than 900,000 sets of remains already buried in martyrs' cemeteries, around 300,000 interred but yet to be identified by name, and about 175,000 still being searched for and repatriated from battlefields across Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Nationwide, there are an estimated 9.2 million people recognised for their meritorious service to the revolution and their family members. Among them, there are around 850,000 wounded and sick soldiers, more than 132,000 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, and more than 320,000 people affected by Agent Orange/dioxin.
