Party leader To Lam urges annual health check-ups for all citizens
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has emphasised that improving people’s lives is one of the key tasks in Vietnam’s development strategy, and in the coming years the country will strive to provide annual health check-ups for all citizens.

To Lam was speaking at a meeting between the Party and State leaders and veteran revolutionaries, war contributors, and exemplary policy families from the southern region, in Ho Chi Minh City on April 21. The meeting was held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025).
In his remarks, the Party leader expressed deep gratitude for the significant contributions and sacrifices of generations of revolutionaries in the past struggle for national independence and reunification.
He affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh’s wish for a unified, independent, and happy Vietnam has been and continues to be realised by today’s generations.
On behalf of the Party and State leadership, the General Secretary shared major strategic directions for the future of Vietnam, centred around three key pillars, namely safeguarding peace, stability, and national security; promoting fast and sustainable socio-economic development; and improving people’s living standards, ensuring that no one is left behind.
A notable highlight was his call to provide every citizen with routine health check-ups at least once a year, particularly those in disadvantaged or war-affected areas. He also stressed the importance of expanding health insurance and improving living standards, not only ensuring food and shelter, but striving for better nutrition, lifestyle, and well-being.
Among the three tasks, the Party leader reiterated, economic growth targeting at least 8% in 2025 is the key and this must go hand-in-hand with social progress. To this end, he said, Vietnam should consistently complete its strategic infrastructure systems, especially for transportation, energy and digitalization.
He revealed that the Party would soon issue a resolution on promoting the private sector as a core driver of the economy, making it easier for the private sector to penetrate deeper into the national economy. He also said that the Party would have a resolution on education-training with goals set for 2045 so that by the time Vietnam would have young people with strong character, sharp thinking, knowledge, good health, and broad vision to carry forward the cause of national development.
With regard to preparations for the coming 14th National Party Congress, the Party chief said, all documents to be presented to the Congress were being finalised and would be shared widely for public consultation to ensure they reflect the people’s aspirations.
