Party leader To Lam advocates for free medical treatment for all
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam, during a meeting in Hanoi on April 8 underscored the importance of developing the healthcare sector and improving public health, toward the ultimate goal of providing free medical treatment for all citizens.

Addressing police officers who supported the southern battlefield during the resistance war against American imperialists, To Lam emphasised the determination to comprehensively implement measures to care for and improve the material and spiritual life of the people, with special priority to be given to ethnic minorities, residents in remote, border, and island areas, former revolutionary bases, strategic regions, and areas with large religious populations.
He said, social welfare policies, along with preferential treatment for people with meritorious service, will be effectively implemented. Recently, the Politburo decided to waive tuition fees for school students at all levels, and nationwide efforts are underway to achieve the goal of eliminating dilapidated housing.
Besides, he set the direction to focus on developing the healthcare sector and improving public health, with the goal of providing free medical treatment for all citizens, so that every Vietnamese person can truly enjoy a prosperous and happy life.
The Party General Secretary, during a meeting of the Documents Subcommittee for the 14th National Party Congress on March 15, raised the question of whether to strive for free medical treatment for the people by 2030. He directed that if the goal is achievable, it should be immediately included in the Political Report to be presented at the coming National Party Congress.
At the April 8 meeting, the Party leader expressed deep gratitude for the dedication and contributions of police officers who supported the southern battlefield, the security forces, the people of the South, and the armed forces and citizens nationwide.
He noted that the Vietnamese economy has maintained continuous growth for decades, consistently ranking among the countries with the highest growth rate in the region and the world. The high growth has transformed Vietnam from a low-income country into a middle-income one. However, he warned, the risk of economic stagnation and falling into the middle-income trap remains present.
With regard to the United States’ recent imposition of reciprocal tariff on Vietnamese exports, he said both sides are working to find comprehensive solutions, and he expressed his belief that Vietnam would overcome this challenge soon.
He also emphasized that this is an opportunity for Vietnam to undertake stronger, more decisive, and comprehensive reforms in economic management and to establish a new growth model for the next development phase.
The General Secretary highlighted that the development of science and technology, innovation, and national digital transformation is not only an inevitable trend but also an urgent requirement for Vietnam to close the development gap with the region and the world.
These efforts will open up opportunities to improve labor productivity, foster innovation, and enhance the quality of life for all citizens, he said.
The General Secretary hoped that public security officers who had served, fought, and supported the southern battlefield during the resistance war against American imperialists, would actively contribute their insights to the completion of the documents for the 14th National Party Congress and effectively implement the Party’s strategic directives in the new era.
