Party, State see public health protection as top priority: NA leader

The Party and State have always regarded the protection, care, and improvement of public health as a top priority, which has been shown through efforts to design comprehensive legal frameworks and policies to strengthen the healthcare system, particularly in the current era.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man made the statement while addressing a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day in Hanoi on February 26.

Highlighting the strong progress of the national health care sector and contingent of doctors in all fields over the past 70 years, he noted that Vietnam has developed a widespread grassroots healthcare service system with advanced medical facilities, winning growing international recognition for achievements in medicine.

Particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and disasters, the health care sector demonstrated extraordinary resilience and dedication. These individuals, the NA Chairman noted, showed not only compassion but also incredible fortitude, earning the admiration of the nation. Man commended the healthcare sector for its contributions and sacrifices.

The top legislator urged the health care sector to continue to effectively implement the Party’s resolutions and policies and State laws, with particular emphasis on the 12 key tasks outlined by Party General Secretary To Lam at his working session with the Ministry of Health on February 24. The NA Chairman underlined the need to develop a Vietnamese health care system that is scientific, inclusive, and accessible, ensuring that every citizen has easy access to high quality healthcare services.

He referenced the enduring wisdom of President Ho Chi Minh, who taught that healthcare workers should treat patients as their own family members, a principle that continues to inspire the nation's doctors and medical staff.

He asked authorities at all levels to ensure better material and spiritual support for health care workers, creating safer and more conducive working environments for them. He encouraged all citizens to engage in health-promoting activities, following President Ho Chi Minh’s example of exercising to protect the country and contribute to the nation’s development.

In her speech at the event, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan highlighted President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings to doctors, and efforts ò the sector to realise his words, building a system that is both scientific and people-focused.

Minister Lan acknowledged the challenges ahead, emphasising the increasing expectations from the Party and people. She committed to continuing innovation, improving training, research, and management, and enhancing healthcare quality. The minister concluded by assuring the healthcare sector will uphold its proud traditions and strive for new achievements, contributing to the nation’s progress and development in the future.
