Party chief urges internal affairs sector’s stronger role in new development phase
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has called on the Party’s Internal Affairs sector to further strengthen its strategic advisory role, uphold integrity and remain at the forefront of the fight against corruption, waste and misconduct, as the country enters a new phase of development.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the sector (1966–2026) in Hanoi on January 5, the Party leader praised the sector’s longstanding contributions to safeguarding political stability, protecting the Party and the State, and defending the legitimate rights and interests of the people.
He said internal affairs work has always been regarded as a core pillar by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, playing a critical role in protecting the political system and ensuring social order. He noted that generations of internal affairs officials have demonstrated unwavering loyalty, strong political resolve and integrity, while courageously standing up for what is right and firmly opposing wrongdoing.
These qualities have shaped the distinct identity of the Party’s Internal Affairs sector which is firm in principles, sharp in strategic advice, persistent in struggle and transparent in public ethics, he acknowledged.
Since its re-establishment, the sector has increasingly asserted itself as the Party’s key strategic advisory body in internal affairs, anti-corruption, waste prevention, misconduct control and judicial reform, contributing to Party building, political system reform and the development of a socialist rule-of-law state, he added.
Looking ahead, the Party chief urged the sector to renew its mindset and working methods, enhance the quality of strategic advice and firmly perform its role as the Party’s “goalkeeper” in internal affairs and judicial reform.
He stressed that internal affairs work must not only be correct, but precise; not only timely, but proactive; and not only strict, but humane. The sector should anticipate and address emerging and complex issues, while helping translate the Party’s policies, including those set out in the documents of the upcoming 14th National Party Congress, into effective legal and institutional frameworks.
On anti-corruption efforts, the top leader reiterated that the fight against corruption, waste and misconduct is a long-term strategic task that must be carried out consistently, without exception or “forbidden zones.” He also highlighted the importance of tackling waste to free up and use resources more effectively for national development.
The General Secretary called for closer coordination with relevant agencies to monitor developments and provide timely advice on national security and public order issues, including border security, ethnic minority areas, religious affairs and rural security. He stressed the need to resolve citizen complaints and petitions at grassroots level to prevent prolonged disputes or social unrest.
He also underscored the importance of strengthening oversight in lawmaking and law enforcement, preventing vested interests or group interests from influencing policies, and enhancing power control mechanisms to ensure local governments operate with integrity, accountability and a people-centred approach.
Concluding his remarks, the leader emphasised the need to build a clean, strong and professional internal affairs workforce, with officials who are politically steadfast, morally upright, professionally competent and courageous in defending justice.
With its proud tradition and resilience forged through challenges, he expressed his belief that the Party’s Internal Affairs sector would continue to be a loyal, reliable and sharp instrument of the Party, deserving of the trust of the people and contributing to the safeguarding of discipline, the rule of law and the socialist Vietnamese state.
On this occasion, Party General Secretary To Lam awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order to the Party Central Committee’s Internal Affairs Commission in recognition of its outstanding contribution to national development over the past six decades. This is the second time the commission has been awarded the honour.
