Party reviews anti-corruption efforts, charts future measures
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam on December 11 chaired a national conference reviewing anti-corruption, anti-waste, and anti-negative conduct efforts during the 13th Party Congress term.
The conference set out policies and measures to strengthen oversight, prevent violations, and ensure a cleaner, more accountable Party and government apparatus.
The hybrid event brought together over 190,000 delegates from central ministries, armed forces units, provincial and municipal governments, and Party committees across more than 4,000 venues nationwide. Politburo members, Party Central Committee members, government and National Assembly leaders, and representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also attended.
The conference provided a comprehensive review of national anti-corruption, anti-waste, and anti-negative conduct efforts from the start of the 13th Party Congress term to the present. It assessed achievements, drew lessons from successful practices, and highlighted effective leadership, guidance, and implementation at all levels of Party committees, steering committees, and relevant agencies.
It also identified shortcomings, weaknesses, and unmet targets, along with their causes, while outlining policies, tasks, and measures to strengthen anti-corruption, anti-waste, and anti-negative conduct efforts in the coming period.
It was reported at the conference that over the past five years, authorities have detected and provided guidance on handling more than 1,000 cases of corruption, waste, and negative conduct. The Internal Affairs Commission of the Party has advised the Central Steering Committee on monitoring and directing 149 cases and 84 serious, complex cases that drew significant public attention. The Commission also proposed expanding the scope, functions, and responsibilities of the Steering Committee to include the prevention of negative conduct and waste.
At the conference, Politburo member and Permanent Secretary of the Party Central Committee Tran Cam Tu urged the internal affairs sector to strengthen supervision, enforce accountability, and implement corrective and preventive measures to ensure past violations are not repeated and that state assets are recovered. He emphasised the importance of promoting transparent, responsive local governments and accelerating efforts to combat waste across society.
Vietnam’s anti-corruption and anti-waste initiatives are being carried out across the entire political system, in a coordinated and determined manner. The approach focuses on improving institutions, strengthening inspection and supervision, and strictly handling cases, particularly in recovering assets from corruption.
Prevention is also emphasised through education, raising the accountability of leaders, and promoting oversight by the public and the media. Key measures include tightening public service discipline, controlling power, increasing transparency, ensuring thorough resolution of violations, combating privileges and special interests, and addressing waste.
