Speaking with coal miners, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that throughout the struggle for national independence as well as in the cause of building and safeguarding socialism, the Vietnamese working class, including coal workers, has always been a core force, playing a pioneering role in production, economic recovery and development, and the implementation of the country’s strategic tasks.
He stressed that the Communist Party of Vietnam is the Party of the working class, representing the interests of workers, labourers and the entire nation. The Party’s strength comes from its close bond with the working class and the people.
In the new context, this spirit remains fully valid. To successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress and bring Party guidelines into real life, efforts must begin from production sites, mines, and the daily lives of workers, he said.
The General Secretary called on coal and mineral workers and enterprises to focus on several key orientations, including raising labour productivity, quality and efficiency through organisational innovation, mechanisation, automation, application of science and technology, and digital transformation in mine management and operations.
He emphasised that the tradition of “Discipline and Unity” as part of the 14th National Party Congress’s motto, must be translated into strict technological discipline, labour discipline and safety discipline, considering these as mandatory requirements in production to minimise losses, reduce downtime and improve the efficiency of machinery and labour.
Productivity growth should go hand in hand with higher incomes and improved living standards for workers, ensuring harmonious interests among the State, enterprises and employees. Wages and bonuses must accurately reflect workers’ skills, productivity and contributions, while strong incentives should be given to outstanding and innovative individuals and collectives.
General Secretary To Lam also urged the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) to continue paying attention to housing, welfare and social facilities for workers, including living conditions, healthcare, education and cultural life, noting that building a safe, civilized and stable living environment will help workers stay committed to their jobs and the industry.
“Ensuring occupational safety and health is a political mandate and an ethical boundary in production. Under no circumstances should worker safety be traded for output or growth,” he stressed, calling for stronger on-site supervision, early-warning technologies for risks, and greater awareness of safety regulations.
He further highlighted the importance of vocational training, skills upgrading and building a high-quality technical workforce, along with strengthening the role of Party organisations and trade unions in enterprises.
Earlier the same day, General Secretary To Lam offered incense and flowers in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the national historical site marking the leader’s visit to Deo Nai Mine, and extended Tet greetings to workers at the Deo Nai–Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company.
