Party building and rectification work vital to survival of regime

VOV.VN - In carrying out its mission, the Communist Party of Vietnam always considers the Party building and rectification work a task of vital significance to the survival of the Party as well as of the socialist regime.

Since its inception on February 2, 1930, the Communist Party of Vietnam has taken on the historic mission of leading the revolution to gain independence for the Vietnamese people, and to win freedom and happiness for every citizen.

During the first period of struggle from 1930 to 1945, the highest task of the Party was to gain independence for the nation and freedom for its people. Never straying from that goal, the Party raised the flag of liberation high, mobilised the strength of great national unity, and took advantage of favourable opportunities to lead the people to stand up and seize administration, culminating in the miracle of the August 1945 Revolution.

In the subsequent battles against foreign invaders, the Party mobilised the will of the entire nation to protect national independence, the newly-established revolutionary Government, and the fruits of the revolution, as well as national unity and territorial sovereignty. The aspiration for a society without national oppression and subjugation, and for non-discrimination between people, was also upheld by the Party in the resilient and persistent struggle of the Vietnamese people.

During the Doi Moi (Renewal) process launched in 1986, the Party found the appropriate path and steps to bring the country out of crisis, gradually integrating and developing in the extremely difficult circumstances of a volatile world at the end of the 20th century.

Since the start of the 21st century, Vietnam has constantly maintained political stability and economic development, while also becoming a friend and reliable partner of all countries. It has therefore been moving in the right direction on its chosen path, forming a solid position on the regional and global geopolitical map. Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong once said, “Never before has our country had the potential, position and international prestige it has today.”

The past 94 years testify to the fact that in the most difficult circumstances during the revolution, the Party has been able to maintain its pioneering and fighting spirit, successfully dealing with the urgent and long-term tasks of the nation. It’s also worth remembering that in previous revolutionary periods, the Party and President Ho Chi Minh repeatedly emphasised the need to improve the quality and capacity of the entire Party and each member to ensure that it is a truly typical, pioneering, and loyal representative of the interests of the nation and the working class. This has contributed to the Party maintaining its prestige, as well as its leadership role and position.

Facing directly both opportunities and challenges in the new context, the Communist Party of Vietnam affirms its loyalty to the interests of the nation and people, while creatively applying Ho Chi Minh’s ideology to solve the heavy and complex tasks of the revolution.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong once said, “The Party will not be able to stand firm and be strong enough to lead the country forward unless it maintains its revolutionary nature, is stable politically and ideologically, has high consistency in will and actions, stays pure in morality and lifestyle, is strictly organized, and receives support from the people. That is why our Party always emphasizes the need to attach special importance to Party building, considering this a key task of vital significance to our Party and our regime.”

The Party has therefore launched a fight against corruption and negativity, with these being the most pressing issues in society today, in order to regain the people’s trust. Over recent years the anti-corruption campaign has been carried out drastically, in the spirit of “No restriction zones” and “No exceptions,” yielding positive and clear results. Many major graft scandals have been brought to light, with many corrupt officials being severely disciplined and State assets being recovered.

At the fourth plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee, the Party affirmed, “We must pay special attention to and bring the Party building and rectification work to new heights, associated with building a clean and strong political system. This is a task of vital significance to the survival of the Party and the socialist regime in our country.”

Dr. Nhi Le, former deputy editor-in-chief of the Communist Review, told VOV.VN in a recent interview that the goal of the Party building and rectification work is for the Party to successfully shoulder its historical mission and the people’s entrustment to it.

“The Party building and rectification drive is a regular, comprehensive and uninterrupted work. That is also the people’s request for the Party to be purely clean and comprehensively strong. Without that, it will be very difficult for the Party to lead the nation to move forward,” said Dr. Le.

The Party considers self-innovation and self-rectification as the nature laws of existence and development. This is a difficult, complex, and drastic struggle, but is an inevitable step for development, meaning that the Party deserves to both “moral and civilized” as expected by the people.
