Vietnam welcomes greater investment from leading Danish companies
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam and King Frederik X of Denmark met with representatives of leading Danish companies in Copenhagen on October 20, as Vietnam seeks to deepen investment ties and expand cooperation in high-value sectors.
The meeting, held during the leader’s state visit to Denmark, brought together representatives of A.P. Moller–Maersk, LEGO Group, Carlsberg, Pandora, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Vestas.
The companies expressed confidence in Vietnam’s investment environment and outlined their long-term priorities and proposals for expanding their operations in the country.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, for his part, welcomed the Danish companies’ presence and long-term investment commitments, noting that they bring not only capital but also technology, management expertise, international standards and experience in green and sustainable development, helping improve the quality of foreign investment in Vietnam.
Expanding cooperation into high-value sectors
According to Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, Vietnam wishes to ramp up cooperation with Denmark into new areas of strategic importance, including energy transition and renewable energy, seaports and green maritime transport, logistics, the circular economy, environmental technology, water management, sustainable agriculture and food production, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, automation and smart manufacturing.
He also called for stronger links between businesses, research institutes and educational institutions, alongside greater cooperation in research and development, technology transfer and high-quality workforce training. Danish companies were encouraged to help Vietnamese businesses improve management capabilities, meet environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards and participate more deeply in global value chains.
The leader expected Danish logistics companies to consider expanding investment in seaports, international transshipment hubs, logistics centres, smart warehousing, air and rail freight services, and modern supply-chain management solutions. Beyond transporting Vietnamese goods, international logistics operators could help position Vietnam as a key link in global logistics networks and a regional hub for distribution, transshipment and supply-chain management.
In the energy sector, he said, Vietnam welcomes further cooperation in clean and renewable energy, wind and solar power, flexible and reliable power sources, energy storage and energy efficiency.
For advanced manufacturing, he encouraged international groups to move beyond assembly operations and bring more value-added activities to Vietnam, including design, research and development, product development, creative content and workforce training. He also called for stronger local supplier networks so that products researched, designed and manufactured in Vietnam can reach hundreds of millions of consumers worldwide.
Improving the investment environment
Referring to Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW on the development of the foreign-invested economic sector, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam assured Danish companies that Vietnam would continue to review and improve its legal framework for investment, land, planning, energy, infrastructure, science and technology, and innovation.
The country would work towards a more stable, transparent, consistent and predictable business environment by cutting unnecessary administrative procedures, strengthening decentralisation, digitising processes and shortening project preparation and implementation times. Appropriate mechanisms would also be developed to address emerging issues in practice.
Vietnam wants international partners to contribute not only capital but also technology, management expertise, skilled personnel and access to global markets, working with Vietnamese businesses to build competitive supply chains and industrial ecosystems.
The leader asked Vietnamese authorities to give due consideration to the proposals raised at the meeting, ensuring that each feasible proposal has a designated focal point, each promising project a clear roadmap, and each legitimate concern a responsible agency to review and resolve it.
He reaffirmed Vietnam’s readiness to work with Denmark and businesses from both countries to develop new cooperation models and create fresh opportunities for shared prosperity and a greener, more sustainable future.
Vietnam is committed to listening to investors, addressing their difficulties and providing a favourable, transparent and stable business environment, the leader said, expressing his hope that Danish companies would continue to choose Vietnam as a long-term investment destination, a manufacturing base and an innovation hub within global value chains.
