Vietnam seeks int’l cooperation in digital transformation, green energy, healthcar
VOV.VN - During his State visit to the Philippines, Party General Secretary and President To Lam on May 31 met ADB, Aboitiz Foods, Grab and WHO leaders, calling for stronger international cooperation and resource mobilisation for Vietnam’s digital transformation, green growth, food security and health care.
At the meetings, he stressed the need to mobilise international resources to help Vietnam sustain inclusive and sustainable growth, enhance economic competitiveness and strengthen resilience against global uncertainties.
Meeting with Masato Kanda, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Chairperson of the ADB's Board of Directors, the leader highly valued the long-standing, trusted and effective development partnership between Vietnam and the bank through financial assistance, policy advisory services and knowledge sharing. He urged the ADB to continue accompanying Vietnam in transforming its growth model, developing the private sector, advancing the green transition and improving overall economic competitiveness.
In the context of ASEAN facing growing economic challenges, he also welcomed the ADB’s increased commitment to supporting long-term development priorities and strengthening regional resilience.
Kanda expressed his impression of Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and long-term development vision, reaffirming the bank’s continued support for Vietnam in sustainable development programmes and regional integration efforts.
In his meeting with Tristan Aboitiz, president and CEO of Aboitiz Foods, the Vietnamese leader noted that the group’s activities in energy, food and agriculture, infrastructure, finance, industrial real estate, data and artificial intelligence align closely with Vietnam’s key development priorities.
He encouraged Philippine enterprises to expand investment in Vietnam and promote green agriculture, smart farming, supply chain traceability and sustainable food value chains, contributing to food security in Vietnam and the broader ASEAN region.
Aboitiz committed to strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in food and energy security-related areas and coordinating with relevant authorities to implement proposed initiatives in accordance with Vietnamese laws and on an effective basis.
Meeting with Dr Saia Ma'u Piukala, World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for the Western Pacific, the Vietnamese leader praised the WHO’s role in supporting Vietnam and many countries in improving health systems and protecting public health. He thanked the organisation for recognising Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in tobacco harm prevention and control.
He expressed Vietnam’s desire for the WHO’s continued assistance in improving policy frameworks and health system organisation, particularly in strengthening preparedness and response capacity for future health emergencies.
He also proposed enhanced cooperation in promoting traditional medicine alongside modern healthcare practices to diversify treatment approaches and expand healthcare resources for the population.
For his part, Piukala commended Vietnam’s proactive approach to developing breakthrough policies in public health protection and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to continued support in disease prevention, forecasting capacity building, emergency response and the development of a sustainable, efficient health system toward universal health coverage.
Meeting with Chin Yin Ong, Chief Organisation Capability Officer at Grab, the Vietnamese leader acknowledged Grab’s contributions to the development of e-commerce and the platform economy in Vietnam, noting that the company is currently present in all 34 provinces and cities, providing a wide range of services while creating employment opportunities for many people.
He urged Grab to further advance the application of cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence to improve service quality and deepen its participation in Vietnam’s green transport and smart urban development agenda.
The Vietnamese leader welcomed Grab’s orientations, including AI-based driver support tools, technology-driven tourism promotion, support for the transition to electric vehicles, investment in shared charging infrastructure and stronger integration with public transport networks.
