VOV.VN - Shortly after arriving in Manila for a State visit to the Philippines, Party General Secretary and President To Lam laid flowers at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in the ASEAN Garden on May 31, paying tribute to the late Vietnamese leader and reaffirming the values of peace, friendship and cooperation he championed.
In a solemn atmosphere, Party General Secretary and President To Lam, his spouse and members of the Vietnamese delegation respectfully offered flowers in remembrance of President Ho Chi Minh - national liberation hero, world cultural figure and leader who devoted his life to Vietnam’s independence as well as peace, cooperation and human progress worldwide.
The ceremony took place at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in the ASEAN Garden within the historic Intramuros district of Manila. The site is regarded as a symbolically important cultural and diplomatic landmark reflecting friendship between Vietnam and the Philippines as well as solidarity within ASEAN.
The monument was inaugurated in October 2011 to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Philippines. Designed in a simple yet dignified style, the monument portrays President Ho Chi Minh as a humble and respected figure.
Surrounding the monument is the ASEAN Garden, a green public space dedicated to promoting solidarity, friendship and cooperation among Southeast Asian nations.
Beyond its artistic value, the Ho Chi Minh Monument also stands as a symbol of peace, friendship and development. The site contributes to promoting Vietnam’s image as a peace-loving nation while reflecting the goodwill and respect of the Filipino people toward Vietnam in general and President Ho Chi Minh in particular.
The floral tribute ceremony marked one of the opening activities of Party General Secretary and President To Lam’s State visit to the Philippines, underscoring respect for shared historical values while contributing to the continued strengthening of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam, the Philippines and the broader ASEAN community.
