Vietnam reaffirms support for UN’s central role in global development
VOV.VN - Vietnam regards the United Nations as a cornerstone of multilateralism and a driving force in advancing global sustainable development and addressing shared challenges.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was speaking during his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 23 on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
The Prime Minister commended the Secretary-General’s views and initiatives at this year’s G20 discussions, particularly those related to reforming the international financial system, promoting green transition, and narrowing development gaps.
He emphasised that Vietnam would continue to work closely with the UN in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Secretary-General Guterres expressed his appreciation to Vietnam for successfully hosting the Opening Ceremony for the Signing of the UN Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi in October 2025.
He noted that Vietnam’s invitation to attend the G20 Summit for two consecutive years strongly underscores the recognition and high appreciation of international partners for the country’s growing credibility, stature, and role in addressing global affairs.
The UN leader conveyed his deep sympathy for the losses caused by recent floods in Vietnam and affirmed that UN agencies would continue supporting Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, as well as accompanying the country in its development journey, particularly in climate change response and the implementation of sustainable development objectives.
