Vietnam prioritises strengthening special ties with Laos
VOV.VN - Vietnam gives top priority to strengthening the great relations, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with Laos, reaffirmed National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man during his meeting with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith in Hanoi on September 2.

He noted that Laos’ participation in the grand ceremony marking Vietnam’s 80th National Day vividly reflects the special solidarity between the two countries. He recalled Vietnam’s nation’s heroic revolutionary history and said every achievement of Vietnam has always been accompanied by the support and assistance of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the people of Laos.
Chairman Man congratulated Laos on its comprehensive achievements in implementing the 11th Congress Resolution of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and expressed confidence that Laos would successfully organise the 12th Party Congress in early 2026 and accomplish its national development strategies.
General Secretary and President Sisoulith for his part congratulated Vietnam on its important and comprehensive achievements over the past 80 years, saying its success serves as both encouragement and a valuable lesson for Laos in its national construction and development efforts.
Highlighting the role of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the Lao leader stressed that the relationship between the two parliaments is a key factor in strengthening the overall bilateral ties. He hoped that the two sides would continue close cooperation, exchange legislative experiences, support each other in regional and international forums, and enhance the effectiveness of bilateral agreements.
Both sides also agreed to jointly compile a book titled “50 Years of Relations Between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos – Comprehensive Cooperation and Development” to summarise their cooperation, share experiences, and promote public awareness of the close ties between the two parliaments and countries.
Chairman Man affirmed that Vietnam would continue to strengthen information sharing, coordination, and support for Laos in international forums, while offering expertise in legal framework development, budget oversight, and key joint projects. He suggested that both sides maintain high-level and multi-level exchanges, enhance the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms, resolve obstacles, and seek new directions for a practical and effective phase of bilateral development.
