Vietnam deploys five officers to UN peacekeeping and EU training missions

VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony on February 24 to present the President’s decisions on the deployment of officers to United Nations Peacekeeping Missions and the European Union Training Mission in African countries.

According to the decisions, the Vietnamese officers will work as military observers and intelligence analysis officers at the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), and UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). An officer will be sent to the European Union Training Mission in the Central African Republic.

Congratulating the five officers on receiving their deployment decisions, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Head of the Inter-Agency Working Group on UN Peacekeeping, emphasized that these officers are being deployed as replacements in all UN peacekeeping missions where Vietnam currently has personnel stationed.

He instructed the officers to thoroughly understand and strictly adhere to the foreign policy principles of the Party, the State, and the military; comply with the discipline of the Vietnam People’s Army, the regulations of the United Nations, the laws of the host countries, and the guidelines from relevant authorities and the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations; and always maintain military professionalism.

Upholding the traditions of the military and Vietnam’s peacekeeping forces, the officers must demonstrate competence and resilience, contributing to the promotion of Vietnam’s image, people, and the Vietnam People's Army on the international stage, said Sen. Lieu. Gen. Chien.

Upon arrival at their respective missions, he said, the officers must quickly familiarize themselves with the local environment, immediately engage in their assigned duties, and perform their responsibilities effectively.

On behalf of the officers receiving deployment orders, Lieu. Col. Hoang Minh Thao, who will work as military observer at the UNMISS, affirmed that they would strictly adhere to military discipline, UN security and safety regulations, as well as the laws and culture of the host countries. He emphasized their commitment to unity, proactive cooperation with colleagues, and determination to fulfill the missions assigned by the United Nations, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense.

To date, Vietnam has deployed nearly 1,100 personnel to participate in UN peacekeeping operations at three missions and the UN Headquarters.

Currently, Military Engineering Unit Rotation No. 4 and Level-2 Field Hospital No. 7 have been established, with personnel assembled at the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and Military Hospital 175 for training and preparations for scheduled rotational deployments.
