Eight more Vietnamese officers to undertake UN peacekeeping missions
VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony on January 2 to present the State President’s decision and the Defense Minister’s decision to assign eight more officers to United Nations peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic and South Sudan.
Among them, six officers were assigned to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), and two officers to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations stated that the eight officers were selected from the Navy, the Air Defense - Air Force, the Communications Corps, the Hanoi Capital Command, the Political Academy, and the Military Officer Academy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, emphasized the importance of absolute safety during their missions, noting the highly complex and unpredictable security situations. He urged the officers to be proactive and creative in overcoming difficulties, supporting one another, and fulfilling their tasks successfully while serving abroad.
Gen. Chien also instructed relevant agencies to prepare for coming Lunar New Year celebrations for the peacekeeping forces on duty overseas, including organizing a live teleconference connecting those on missions with the homeland and traditional New Year activities at the missions.
According to the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Vietnam has sent nearly 1,100 personnel to participate in peacekeeping operations across three missions and at the United Nations headquarters.
