Vietnam calls on G20 to set fair and transparent AI governance standards
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has emphasised the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in the era of digital transformation, and proposed that the G20 develop a set of AI governance standards that are fair, transparent, inclusive, and humane, with a human-centred approach.
Speaking at session III themed “A Fair and Just Future for All” of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 23, the Prime Minister highlighted three global transformation trends, namely green transition, digital transition, and demographic-labour transition.
He pointed out that the rapid advancement of science and technology, especially AI, is reshaping production methods and international labour allocation while creating a huge demand for energy and strategic minerals. Yet many developing countries have not fully benefited from their natural resources and face limitations in investment, technology, and governance infrastructure.
To contribute to building a fair, equal, and just future for all countries and people, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasised three strategic priorities. First, he stressed the need to develop partnerships in strategic minerals that are fair, transparent, stable, and sustainable; promote cooperation, diversify supply chains, and advance deep processing industries, high-tech solutions, recycling, and quality employment in line with environmental, social, and governance standards.
Second, He proposed fostering breakthroughs in high-quality human resource training linked to the development of modern, efficient, and sustainable labour markets. He called on the G20 to support developing countries in accessing education cooperation initiatives, reducing barriers, enhancing regional and global labour market connectivity, and implementing programmes to equip young people and workers with skills to meet rapid and sustainable development needs.
Most notably, the Prime Minister urged the G20 to take the lead in building a human-centred AI governance framework that is fair, transparent, inclusive, safe, and ethical. He also emphasised the need to assist developing countries in establishing digital infrastructure, databases, and AI ecosystems to ensure the safe, inclusive, and sustainable use of AI.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to work closely with the G20 and the international community to implement these strategic priorities through concrete and practical cooperation programmes and projects.
The summit also agreed on the implementation of the G20 Critical Minerals Framework, focusing on quality employment and upholding human rights, transparency, fairness, and ethics in data and AI governance. Leaders welcomed the AI for Africa Initiative, enhancing collaboration between the G20 and the African Union in the field of artificial intelligence.
The G20 Summit Leaders’ Declaration was adopted, and the G20 Chairmanship was handed over from South Africa to the United States. The active participation of the Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, contributed significantly to the success of the summit while highlighting Vietnam’s image as a dynamic, proactive nation that actively promotes peace, cooperation, and development regionally and globally.
