Vietnam calls for stronger AI and digital cooperation at Eurasian Economic Forum
VOV.VN - Vietnam has called for stronger cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and innovation with Eurasian partners during the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum held in Astana, Kazakhstan, on May 28.
In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung described AI as a new driver of economic growth, governance modernisation and national competitiveness.
He highlighted Vietnam’s recent achievements in science and technology, innovation, e-government and digital economy development, while outlining the country’s long-term approach to AI development.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Vietnam considers science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as strategic pillars for the country’s next phase of development.
Vietnam’s AI strategy is built on developing high-quality human resources in AI, semiconductors and cybersecurity; expanding digital infrastructure and national data systems; and strengthening AI governance frameworks based on risk management, accountability and data security.
“The Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union has opened up vast opportunities for economic cooperation. In this new context, we need to add scientific and technological content, innovation, and digital transformation,” the official shared.
“Artificial intelligence is becoming the intelligent infrastructure of the digital economy,” he added, emphasising its role in boosting productivity, improving governance and creating new products and services.
He proposed expanding policy exchanges and cooperation on responsible AI governance, digital standards, cybersecurity and data safety among Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) partners.
The Deputy Prime Minister encouraged deeper collaboration in AI research and applications across logistics, customs, smart agriculture, digital trade, healthcare, education, energy and smart cities.
He also called for stronger links between businesses, universities, research institutes and innovation centres in Vietnam and the Eurasian region, alongside greater cooperation in digital and AI workforce training.
“The AI era will not wait for any country, but it also opens opportunities for countries to strengthen cooperation, learn from each other and act together for shared interests. Vietnam aspires to be a reliable, active, and responsible partner of the Eurasian Economic Union in this journey, creating a more practical, effective, inclusive, and sustainable space for cooperation,” he stressed.
The Eurasian Economic Forum which opened in Astana on May 28 was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, leaders of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states, international organisations, businesses and policy experts.
The forum focused on major global economic trends, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and regional connectivity across the Eurasian space.
The Eurasian Economic Union currently comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.
Vietnam and the EAEU signed a free trade agreement in 2015, creating a broader framework for economic cooperation between the two sides.
