Vietnam and Turkey to soon take bilateral relations to new heights

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Turkey will soon elevate and deepen their relations to bring into full play their strengths, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed during their brief meeting on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 23.

Both leaders expressed their pleasure at the positive developments in bilateral relations and agreed to enhance exchanges and contacts between the two countries’ high-ranking leaders. They vowed to further promote economic and trade ties in line with their potential, striving to soon reach a bilateral trade target of US$4 billion.

They also consented to create new frameworks to facilitate trade and investment and expand cooperation in other areas, including defense cooperation, and easing travel for citizens of both countries.

Chinh congratulated Turkey on the significant socio-economic achievements it has made recently and expressed confidence that under Erdogan’s leadership, Turkey will successfully implement its century vision.

He affirmed the importance of the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Turkey, while expressing a desire for Turkish businesses to invest more in Vietnam.

Erdogan for his part congratulated Vietnam’s newly appointed President Luong Cuong and expressed deep admiration for the country’s socio-economic development achievements. He thanked Vietnam for supporting Turkey in becoming a sectoral dialogue partner of ASEAN.

The Turkish President shared his condolences regarding the heavy losses suffered by the Vietnamese government and people due to the recent Typhoon Yagi.

The two sides spent time discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East. They affirmed their commitment to enhance coordination at regional and international cooperation forums in the near future.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed an invitation from President Luong Cuong for President Erdogan to visit Vietnam soon, and President Erdogan happily accepted the invitation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in Kazan, Russia, on October 23 morning for the two-day BRICS Summit at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, chair of BRICS 2024.

BRICS is a group of emerging economies that account for more than 40% of the global population and about a quarter of the world’s GDP.

The group was established in 2009 with four founding members, namely Brazil, Russia, India, and China. It admitted South Africa as a full member a year later before expanding to nine members by January 2024 with the admission of Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
