Vietnam and Turkey issue joint statement on future cooperation

The statement states that this was the first official visit to Turkey by a Vietnamese Prime Minister since the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic relations in 1978.

The visit was of more significance as it took place on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Turkey and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

Turkish leaders welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit, which they said marked an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries.

The two sides expressed their appreciation for bilateral economic and trade cooperation, with positive growth recorded in trade exchanges. They agreed to coordinate closely to raise two-way trade turnover to US$4 billion in the coming time, through strengthening trade promotion, connecting businesses and removing obstacles.

The Vietnamese side expected that the passenger terminal project of Long Thanh International Airport would soon be carried out by a joint venture led by a Turkish company. They also called on Turkish companies to continue with investment projects in Vietnam.

The two sides agreed to increase cooperation in the field of civil aviation to promote tourism and trade.

They recognized the potential for cooperation in agriculture and vowed to speed up negotiations towards increasing the import and export of products of agricultural and animal origin.

The two sides agreed to continue supporting the development of the Halal industry in Vietnam through sharing experiences and building capacity.

On the occasion of the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit, the two sides consented to open a Turkish Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

Highly appreciating the potential for cooperation in the defense industry, the two sides underscored the need to enhance cooperation in this field. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in combating crime, especially transnational crime, organized crime and terrorism in all forms and manifestations, through the exchange of information and experience sharing.

To create the legal framework for cooperation, the two sides vowed to speed up negotiations on bilateral agreements in the fields of defense, security and criminal extradition.

The Turkish side thanked Vietnam for providing physical and spiritual assistance to help Turkey overcome the aftermath of the deadly earthquake in February 2023.

Reiterating the importance of natural disaster management, the two sides agreed to promote cooperation in technical training and experience sharing in search and rescue and relief.

Both sides recognized the importance of upgrading friendship and cooperation to a new partnership framework.
