Vietnam and Russia deepen comprehensive strategic partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Russia have discussed measures to further deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership during a recent meeting in Moscow between Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
At the headquarters of the Russian government, both sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and make the partnership increasingly practical and substantive.
Chernyshenko congratulated the Communist Party of Vietnam on the successful organisation of its 14th National Congress. He said the implementation of joint plans and projects agreed within the framework of the Russia–Vietnam Intergovernmental Commission would help achieve Vietnam’s development targets, including economic growth goals and expanding bilateral trade in line with the strong political ties between the two countries.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister highlighted several priority areas for bilateral cooperation, including energy, oil and gas, finance and banking, and education and training. He also noted that tourism has emerged as a bright spot in bilateral relations.
Vietnam has become one of the most popular holiday destinations for Russian tourists. In 2025, the number of Russian visitors to Vietnam increased by 197% compared with 2024, with Russia ranking fifth among the countries sending the largest number of tourists to Vietnam.
Ambassador Khoi agreed with Chernyshenko’s views on strengthening bilateral cooperation, noting that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia has been developing positively across multiple sectors.
The two sides discussed specific measures to further promote cooperation, particularly in politics, energy, oil and gas, science, education, culture, people-to-people exchanges, sports and tourism.
The ambassador added that not only has the number of Russian visitors to Vietnam increased significantly, but the number of Vietnamese tourists traveling to Russia also rose sharply in 2025.
He proposed that Russia consider working with Vietnam to sign an intergovernmental agreement on visa exemption for Vietnamese group tourists traveling to Russia, which could further boost tourism exchanges between the two countries.
