Vietnam and Cuba vow to deepen comprehensive cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cuba agreed to strengthen cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economy–trade, investment, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges, while expanding into new areas such as tourism, telecommunications, and digital transformation.

This commitment was made during the talks in Hanoi on September 30 between Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba.

In a warm atmosphere of solidarity, the two leaders shared updates on the development of each country and the activities of their parliaments. They discussed directions and measures to further enhance the special friendship, close solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the Parties, States, National Assemblies, and peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.

Chairman Man affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to its traditional, faithful, and pure relationship with Cuba. He congratulated the Cuban people on the achievements made since the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, and expressed his confidence that Cuba would continue to firmly pursue the path of socialism.

For his part, Chairman Lazo Hernandez, who is also President of the Council of State of Cuba, conveyed solidarity with the Vietnamese people for the damages caused by recent typhoons Ragasa and Bualoi. He also highly appreciated Vietnam’s support, both materially and spiritually, for Cuba, especially during difficult times.

Both sides noted that Vietnam–Cuba relations have continued to be consolidated and developed comprehensively and substantively, despite complicated global developments. Politically and diplomatically, their bond of solidarity and mutual trust has deepened, as demonstrated by recent high-level visits, including the state visit by Party General Secretary To Lam in September 2024 and the visit by First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz-Canel in September 2025.

In economic–trade and investment cooperation, both sides acknowledged significant progress through projects in agriculture–food production, biotechnology–pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and consumer goods. Collaboration in culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges has also become more diverse and practical, strengthening the bond between the two peoples.

The two parliamentary leaders agreed to continue maintaining exchanges of delegations at all levels, reinforcing cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties, Governments, and National Assemblies, while jointly promoting the effective implementation of priority cooperation projects and encouraging businesses to expand investment in potential fields.

Both sides also agreed to strengthen the sharing of experiences in legislation, policy implementation, economic and financial management, agricultural development, science and technology, and digital transformation. In particular, the two National Assemblies will exchange experiences in preparation for the Party Congresses of both countries in 2026.

Concluding the talks, the two leaders emphasised the importance of further promoting the exemplary Vietnam–Cuba relationship in the new era. They also pledged to continue close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and international organisations where both parliaments are members, especially the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

In the evening, Chairman Man hosted a banquet in honour of his guest. On October 1, the two top legislators will co-chair the second meeting of the Vietnam–Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba, arrived in Hanoi on September 30 for a six-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam.

The visit takes place at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (1960–2025) and the Vietnam–Cuba Friendship Year 2025. It is expected to further deepen the special friendship, faithful solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, creating a solid foundation for the next stage of development in bilateral relations.
